Turning back time with the Nike Air Max 1 '86 "Big Bubble"
The Air Max 1 Big Bubble will be released on Air Max Day 3.26.23, and Nike decided to do something special. Instead of taking different variations and styles as done in the past, Nike decided to keep it accurate to the original pair that debuted in 1987.
The Air Max 1 will come dressed in the original "Sport Red" colorway and feature the iconic big bubble that shook the world. Tinker Hatfield Hatfield, renowned for many of his contributions to Nike Sneakers, debuted the Air Max 1 in 1987, which everyone remembers for the transparent giant air bubbles.
One of many enthusiasts' complaints about the Air Max 1 from 1993-2002 was a clear-cut on the bubble. This separated the upper and lower parts of the air max units. Unfortunately, this feature also created the deadly issue of the air bubble popping, ultimately leading to the demise of the shoe. However, all Air Max 1's from 2006 onward would feature smaller air units, increasing their longevity.
Until the Anniversary Edition of the Air Max 1 in 2017 came along, the features of the sneaker were the critical issue. This includes the toe box shape, mesh, tongue length, and heel. So it gave some satisfaction to enthusiasts when the 2023 Air Max 1 Big Bubble was revealed this year for Air Max Day, as it brought all the OG elements of the shoe that people laid their eyes on in 1986.
The Air Max 1 Big Bubble will release throughout multiple boutique stores on March 26, 2023, and on the SNKRS App. Keep up with all the latest release details here on @SwiftSole.
