Union LA AJ1 High Is Not What We Expected
Towards the end of March, it was revealed that Union LA would be collaborating with Air Jordan 1 again, with the release set for August. This collaboration will differ from the 2018 design, and the initial look confirms that to an extent.
The upcoming design features the distinct turquoise threading just below the Jordan wings logo, the UN/LA flap, and across the tongue, which brings together two pairs. Additionally, the yellowed interior of the upper panels is reminiscent of the OG pairs.
The "BBS" embroidery on the heel honors Chris Gibbs' wife, Beth, and her brand, Bephie's Beauty Supply. What sets this design apart is the thick woven panel around the mudguard, inspired by the Air Footscape Woven, a lifestyle shoe that debuted in the late 2000s. It was a twist on the asymmetrical lacing structure of the Air Footscape, a running shoe.
Infusing this feature with an Air Jordan 1 is a surprising yet exciting collaboration. While the idea is creative, reusing the previous design concept may have been optional. More images of the Union Air Jordan 1 for 2023 are yet to surface, with the possibility of more colorways, so stay tuned for further updates.
